In response to the widespread farmers' protests unfolding in neighboring countries, the Free Luxembourgish Farmers' Union (FLB) and the Luxembourgish Farmers' Alliance issued a joint statement.
The FPL and the Luxembourgish Farmers' Alliance stand in solidarity with their Belgian counterparts. Even in Luxembourg, farmers are frustrated with agricultural policy developments such as increased bureaucracy, production caps and low-priced imports from third-party countries pricing out local products.
However, both union welcome Prime Minister Luc Frieden's recognition of their worries as he plans to meet farmers on Thursday. The unions believe it would be absurd to join protests given the readiness with which the new government wants to cooperate with farmers.
