Construction and housing sectorPositive reception for government measures

RTL Today
The government's announcement that it will introduce measures aimed at revitalising the construction industry and facilitating access to housing has garnered positive reactions from employers and craftspeople.

Both the Federation of Craftspeople and the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts welcomed the government’s initiatives as practical steps to address the ongoing crisis in the construction sector. They praised the introduction of tax incentives to stimulate investment and structural measures aimed at facilitating home ownership.

In a joint press release issued on Thursday, the two organisations emphasised the importance of seizing this “window of opportunity.” They urged all stakeholders, including local authorities, to expedite the granting of building permits to ensure timely implementation of projects.

They also encouraged public and private investors to capitalise on the tax incentives to initiate new housing and infrastructure developments, which would generate work for construction businesses.

Additionally, they called on the state and local authorities to swiftly initiate calls for tender for new projects. Private individuals were also encouraged to proceed with their construction or renovation projects while the favourable conditions persist.

UEL also welcomes measures

The Luxembourg Employers’ Association (UEL) echoed these sentiments, expressing support for the government’s measures in a separate press release on Thursday.

Emphasising the short-term nature of these measures, the UEL urged private individuals and institutional investors to act promptly, as some measures are limited to 2024.

The association called for collective efforts from all concerned parties, including administrations, municipalities, land registries, and developers, “to turn the revitalisation of the construction and housing sector into a reality.”
