Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The meeting in Switzerland welcomes approximately 2,500 prominent figures from the realms of global politics, business, science, and civil society. Distinguished guests include UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and over 60 heads of state and government.

Traditionally a platform focused on economic and financial issues, this year's forum has taken on a different tone due to ongoing geopolitical challenges, notably the new conflict in the Middle East and the Russian war in Ukraine.

Representing Luxembourg, Frieden used the occasion to engage in bilateral meetings, including with Zelensky.

Reflecting on their discussion, Frieden stated: "The first thing I said to President Zelensky was that, given the principles at stake in his country and our own understanding in Luxembourg of what it means when a country is invaded by a large neighbour, Luxembourg will continue to stand by Ukraine in the future — politically, militarily, and economically."

In addition to the situation in Ukraine, the forum will address various geopolitical issues, including the new conflict in the Middle East, disruptions to global trade caused by attacks on supply chains in the Red Sea, the super election year 2024 with the potential return of Donald Trump, and the increasing influence of right-wing populism in Europe.
