It’s tradition! Every year, it’s best to plan ahead to be sure to make the most of the public holidays. Our colleagues at RTL Infos have compiled a list of the most important dates to keep in mind, so that you can enjoy some longer weekends and take advantage of the possible ‘bridges’ of 2024.
The year begins on a Monday which will be 1 January, and New Year’s Day is a public holiday in Luxembourg. Then we’ll have to wait for Easter Monday, scheduled for 1 April. Then comes a marathon of public holidays starting with Labour Day on Wednesday 1 May. Then two public holidays fall on the same day! On Thursday 9 May, you’ll have both Europe Day and Ascension Day. But don’t worry, the Luxembourg government has made sure that you don’t miss out on one of your public holidays of the year, meaning we’ll get an extra day.
Next up is Whit Monday on Monday 20 May. Then it’s a month until Sunday 23 June to enjoy National Day! Once again, don’t you worry: when a public holiday falls on Sunday, all workers are entitled to another mandatory day of rest. This must be taken within three months of the bank holidays.
Assumption Day then falls on Thursday 15 August. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a long weekend by taking a day off on Friday 16.
Then there’s Friday 1 November which is a public holiday for All Saints’ Day.
Finally, there are the two days of Christmas: Wednesday 25 December and Thursday 26 December.
