Semedo does not accept the European Parliament’s decision to enforce this disciplinary measure, which was taken in April 2023. Notably, in 2021, Semedo faced similar accusations of bullying, resulting in a 15-day suspension from the European Parliament. Subsequently, she left the Democratic Party (DP), her former political affiliation.

Semedo officially filed a complaint with the Court of Justice of the European Union at the end of June. In her complaint, she requests the annulment of the latest sanction, arguing that it does not adhere to legal procedures.

The MEP asserts that the allegations of bullying do not meet specific criteria, and therefore the Parliament’s characterisation of the situation as bullying is in question. The case is now pending a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
