Crowther, who became a viral phenomenon through a video showing him reporting fluently in six languages, has been awarded an honorary PhD.

Crowther was born in Luxembourg in 1981 to a German mother and a British father, a familial situation which - combined with living in the Grand Duchy - set him up for some serious multilingualism.

Now based on Washington, D.C., he works for the Associated Press as an International Affiliate Reporter. He has also reported consistently for RTL Luxembourg throughout the years.

Crowther went viral in 2022 after posting a video compilation in which he reported from Kyiv to forty-six live television broadcasts in 6 languages - a feat which left the official DuoLingo account "too stunned to speak".

RTL Today profiled Crowther in 2018, in a video that we highlighted a second time after Crowther went viral again in 2021, this time through a video showcasing his multilingual reporting.

Honorary Doctorate

Miami University Ohio, via its John E. Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) in Luxembourg, awarded Crowther an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters on 11 October 2023. Posting to X, Crowther described it as the "Honour of a lifetime."
