Although the CSV and the DP say the ongoing coalition negotiations are focused on content, the question of ministerial roles is inevitable.

It is highly likely that each party's candidates with the highest number of individual votes will occupy ministerial positions once the next government is confirmed. As ministers, these MPs will move out of the Chamber of Deputies, clearing the way for candidates with fewer votes in the elections. Who are these candidates likely to be?

The first question to tackle is the number of ministers estimated to serve in the next government. While the DP-LSAP-Green coalition has 17 ministers, it is thought the new CSV-DP coalition will see that number drop to 15, with the possibility of nine CSV ministers and six for the DP. If the ministries are divided proportionally according to district size, the new Chamber of Deputies could potentially appear as follows.

South

If we assume that three members of the CSV elected in the South take on ministerial portfolios, they would be replaced in the Chamber by the next candidates on the list: Nathalie Morgenthaler, Françoise Kemp and Dr. Nadine Schmid.

Equally, if two members of the DP in the South are assigned ministerial roles, two female candidates would serve as MPs in their stead: Barbara Agostino, who previously joined the Chamber as an MP when Max Hahn took over the Minister of Family position; and former professional tennis player Mandy Minella.

Centre

The Central district could also see three CSV and two DP candidates join the next government, creating vacancies for the following candidates in the Chamber of Deputies.

According to the election results, the next candidates on the list for the CSV would be Luxembourg City alderman Maurice Bauer and municipal councillor Laurent Mosar, as well as Walferdange councillor and CSJ president Alex Donnersbach.

The DP's candidates with the next-highest number of votes were Walferdange municipal councillor Guy Arendt and Luxembourg City alderman Patrick Goldschmidt.

North

In the North, there could be two CSV ministers and one for the DP, meaning that agricultural engineer Jef Boonen and Ettelbruck first alderman Jean-Paul Schaaf would step in as MPs for the Christian Social People's Party.

Marc Hansen would be the next candidate on the list for the DP..

East

Luxembourg's smallest electoral district would supply a ministerial position for each coalition party. If that were to be the case, the CSV would see Rosport-Mompach mayor Stéphanie Weydert move into the Chamber as an MP.

DP fraction president and Junglinster councillor Gilles Baum could also rejoin the Chamber of Deputies for the next legislative period.
