Luxembourg is about to witness the opening of its very first IMAX cinema. Starting from 18 October, film enthusiasts can immerse themselves in a new dimension of cinematic experience, enriched by cutting-edge image and sound technologies.

The Kinepolis group has announced the arrival of IMAX technology at their Kirchberg location by describing it as a "new experience delivering an unparalleled level of immersion." The introduction of IMAX technology, initially announced in August, promises cinema-goers brighter images thanks to a "personalised screen," the Kinepolis Luxembourg team explains.

IMAX 4K laser projection offers "increased resolution, sharper images, deeper contrasts, and the widest range of colours available to film-makers, so that viewers can enjoy the most realistic images possible," according to the Kinepolis group, which operates three cinemas in Luxembourg (Kirchberg, Belval, and Ciné Utopia).

This visual upgrade is complemented by an improvement in sound quality, thanks to IMAX precision. The patented sound technology assures "exceptional clarity, depth, and even distribution of perfected sound throughout the cinema."

The transformation began with the start of work in Hall 1 at Kinepolis Kirchberg on 18 August 2023, with an estimated opening "around 6 October." At the time, the Kinepolis group also stressed that certain films "will be digitally remastered" for IMAX technology, to improve both the image and soundtrack.
