The Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) will welcome Dr Martine Goergen as its new director in March 2024, following the retirement of current director Romain Nati, who is campaigning for a national election seat with the LSAP.

The governing board of the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg announced on Monday that Dr Martine Goergen will succeed Romain Nati as hospital director as of March 2024. Nati, who runs for office in the national election for the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), is set to retire next year.

Nati was already a candidate in the 2004 election. Up until 2019, the 64-year-old pneumologist was also vice president of the State Council.

Goergen has been the CHL’s medical director for the past six years. She previously worked as a surgeon and first came to the institution two decades ago. She is now slated to become the first woman at the helm of a Luxembourg hospital.

In a statement, Dr Goergen noted: “It is with great honour that I accept the position of general director of a key institution in the healthcare sector. My vision is part of an innovative, evolving and progressive continuity of usefulness, while keeping the patient at the centre of my concerns.”
