Christine Schweich, treasurer of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), has announced that she will change her affiliation in favour of the Democratic Party (DP), a small political surprise a day ahead of the LSAP's presentation of its south candidate list for the parliamentary elections.
According to a DP statement (GER), Schweich expressed her desire to continue her role on the Mondercange municipal council as part of the DP faction.
Although she still ran for the LSAP as lead candidate in the recent municipal elections, she has noted that she no longer feels aligned with the party's policies in a statement (FR) published on Monday evening.
Schweich was elected to the Mondercange council with the six-most votes.
The local section of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), which has already agreed to form a coalition with the DP, has since released a statement to announce that they will meet on Tuesday evening to discuss the change in Schweich's party affiliation.
