On Monday, the National Lottery reported that it distributed “millions of euros” to players in Luxembourg. The year 2022 saw a substantial upswing in sales, boosting the organisation’s turnover to €158.3 million (+24.7%). Compared to 2011, turnover has increased by one third.

The surge in sales directly translated into increased prize offerings for players, as they collectively received over €94.7 million, a significant increase of 31.3%. Euromillions was the most popular game, ahead of the national Lotto, which reached its maximum jackpot of €45 million on two separate occasions.

According to the National Lottery, all of this was made possible through “the continuous renewal and improvement of the game repertoire each year,” coupled with an expansive network of sellers, including bars, bookshops, and supermarkets. The latter were also able to reap substantial benefits, as they collectively received €12 million in commissions paid out by the National Lottery.

A further €23 million was distributed as aid:

  • €13,059,454.89 allocated to the National Solidarity Fund and social offices
  • €5,234,080 allocated to seven beneficiary institutions as well as to the Relief Fund for Luxembourgish War Victims 1940-1945 and the Relief Fund for Luxembourgers in Brussels
  • €4,778,672.68 allocated to 133 projects in the form of one-off grants
