The construction of the new ArcelorMittal headquarters in Kirchberg was officially launched on Wednesday with the formal ground-breaking ceremony.
The building, which was designed by French star architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, is expected to be completed by 2026. Unsurprisingly, the new headquarters of the steel giant will mainly consist of - you guessed it - steel.
10,000 tonnes of steel, the majority of which will be produced in Luxembourg, will be used for the building on Boulevard J.F. Kennedy in Kirchberg. The HQ will be 80 metres high and extend over 22 stories. Solar panels will be installed on the roof top.
During the presentation on Wednesday, executive chairman Lakshmi Mittal stressed the importance of sustainability and explained that the new building will consist of recycled steel. CEO Aditya Mittal added that the material can also be reused if there are ever plans to change aspects of the building.

The Luxembourg government filed a draft law earlier this year to eventually buy half of the HQ, about 18,000 square metres, for an estimated €237.5 million.
