The number of Covid infections dropped by 16% over the past week, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health.

Despite the drop in cases, five people succumbed to the virus in the week of 16-22 January. The average age among the victims was 74.

As of Wednesday, nine people were hospitalised with Covid, including one patient in intensive care.

The BQ.1 variant is still dominant in Luxembourg, although the XBB mutation is beginning to gain ground, according to recent reports issued by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST).

The Grand Duchy's wastewater analysis still reports a high presence of the virus, although recent weeks have seen a slight decrease.

The number of flu cases also dropped by a quarter over the past week.
