Prime Minister Bettel confirmed a further €4 million in aid at an international conference in support of Ukrainian resilience, held in Paris on 13 December.
The conference, chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and held in the presence of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal as well as First Lady Olena Zelenska, was jointly organised by France and Ukraine and held in Paris on Tuesday.
The conference, which was attended by representatives of governments as well as international organisations, focused on Ukraine's needs in the fact of Russia's relentless attacks on its critical civilian infrastructure including energy and water.
Attendees agreed that the international community's solidarity with Ukraine and its people cannot weaken at this critical time, as winter is fast approaching and will bring with is yet harsher conditions.
During his speech, Bettel called on Russia to stop its cynical attacks on civilian infrastructure, which he reiterated are contrary to international law. The PM also announced that Luxembourg's government will grant a new tranche of humanitarian aid of up to €4 million, which will be made available to UN agencies (UNHCR and OCHA), as well as Luxembourg-based NGOs active in Ukraine (Luxembourg Red Cross and Caritas).
In addition, Luxembourg's Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) will this week hand over eight fully equipped ambulances to their Ukrainian counterpart.
Xavier Bettel ended his speech by reminding the Ukrainian Prime Minister and the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, who participated in the conference live by video, that Luxembourg will continue to support Ukraine and its people in solidarity and in friendship.
