Despite growing in popularity, electric and hybrid vehicles still only account for 5.5% of Luxembourg's overall car fleet.

By 30 September 2022, 7,513 new registrations of electric or hybrid cars had been recorded in Luxembourg. Of those, 4,589 were 100% electric. The trend away from combustion engines thereby continues with 23% of new registrations being electric or hybrid cars.

Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch provided these statistics in his response to a recent parliamentary enquiry from the Pirate Party. However, he also noted that close to 25,000 cars with combustion engines had been registered by the same date.

For 2022, the breakdown of new vehicles is therefore as follows: approximately 77% combustion engine cars versus 23% electric and hybrid cars.

As things stand, electric and hybrid cars still only account for 5.5% of the total car fleet registered in the Grand Duchy.
