Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn recently provided insight into trade relations with Canada, noting that exports from the Grand Duchy amounted to a record-breaking number last year.

MP Mars Di Bartolomeo from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) recently enquired about the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the European Union and Canada.

In his response, Minister Asselborn explained that exports from the Grand Duchy to Canada amounted to a record-breaking €124 million in 2021. By comparison, 2017 saw exports of some €106 million before falling to €86 million in 2018, after which a continuous increase has been recorded. In terms of imports, the number is subject to more variations, but amounted to €109 million last year.

The foreign affairs expert also underlined that the pandemic and the war in Ukraine show the importance of having reliable economic and commercial partners that share the same values and visions as Luxembourg.
