During a visit to Luxembourg, Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu stressed his country's commitment to joining the European Union.
However, Popescu also acknowledged that the war in Ukraine has hampered efforts to establish economic ties with Europe and other foreign countries. Moldova has taken in over 100,000 refugees from Ukraine.
The Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs was welcomed by Luxembourgish Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn, President of the Chamber of Deputies Fernand Etgen, and the MPs from the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee. They stressed that Moldova is already part of the European family, and that Luxembourg will support the country on its path to becoming an EU member state.
However, they also questioned Popescu about his country's relations with the region of Transnistria and pro-Russian sentiments in Moldova.
