According to reader reports gathered by our colleagues at RTL 5minutes, phishing attempts have been on the rise in recent days.

The Grand Ducal Police have already issued a warning for fraudulent text messages that invite recipients to visit Guichet.lu.

Similar messages pretending to be sent by Luxembourgish banks, authorities, and delivery services are equally dangerous and should be ignored. Most of them follow a comparable pattern.

Senders promise a reimbursement or ask for payments, to be made via websites that closely resemble those of the cited institutions. This is where the scam takes shape as the links lack authenticity and have been specifically designed to access personal and sensitive information.

Should you receive such a message, you are advised not to click on the link -- under any circumstance! Police have confirmed that they represent phishing attempts.

In general, banks and administrations do not communicate via text message, which should already make you suspicious of the numbers.
