Following a fatal shooting in Bonnevoie back in 2018, a police officer is on trial and facing homicide charges on Tuesday.

The case dates back to 11 April 2018 when a motorist evaded a police check in Bonnevoie. An officer then fired shots and fatally wounded the driver. The driver was later identified as a 51-year-old Dutch national who resided in Germany.

The trial is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. The police officer who fired the shots is facing homicide charges and it remains to be determined whether he could have chosen different means to handle the situation.

A statement issued by the judiciary back in 2018 noted that the driver headed straight for the police car and ignored a visible stop sign before shots were fired.
