ALEBATrade union criticises Spuerkees for not hiring former Fortuna Bank employees

RTL Today
The financial sector trade union ALEBA has expressed disappointment over the attitude that Spuerkees has shown former Fortuna employees since taking over their clients.

After close to a century-long presence, Fortuna Bank has decided to steadily halt activities in Luxembourg. The cooperative society, which was founded in 1920, struck a deal with the Spuerkeess bank to take on its existing customers, an agreement that has now caused dismay among ALEBA representatives.

In a written statement (FR), ALEBA criticises that Spuerkees seems uninterested in hiring former Fortuna employees: “It is quite regrettable to note that a financial institution such as Spuerkeess, whose sole shareholder is the Luxembourg State, and which claims to have the mission of supporting the national economy, does not care much about the fate of Fortuna employees and only values its own financial interests.”

The statement further draws attention to the fact that taking on former employees would significantly support the transition of former clients. It also criticises that negotiations of a redundancy plan have yet to be addressed and started.

At the moment, Fortuna Bank still employs 17 people with permanent employment contracts.
