A German motorist lost his life in a fatal motorway accident on the A1 at 2.25pm on Thursday.

The motorist lost control over his vehicle near the Mertert exit on the A1 motorway. He collided with the crash barrier, an impact that made the vehicle flip over several times.

The 44-year-old driver from Germany was dead at the scene while the passenger suffered severe injuries. Emergency services from Junglinster, Grevenmacher-Mertert, and Manternach were called to the scene to provide assistance.

The motorway stretch between Potaschberg and Mertert was closed after the accident to allow a forensics team to investigate the cause of the crash. A detour was set up via Grevenmacher.
