The Grand Duchy's contributions will be increased following a re-evaluation of the national contributions of the different EU member states.

Because Luxembourg's Gross National Income (GNI) is higher than estimated, the Grand Duchy will have to contribute more funds to the EU budget. Specifically, Luxembourg will have to retroactively pay almost €250 million for the past decade.

This sum was calculated by the European Commission based on a re-evaluation of the national contributions of the different EU members states and a regularisation of accounts. Besides the GNI, income derived from VAT was also taken into account.
