In a statement published on Wednesday, the Ministry of State announced that the official petition calling for a referendum on the planned constitutional reform only collected 7,397 signatures.
In total, 7,413 signatures were collected across all municipalities. However, 16 were invalid. At least 25,000 signatures would have been required to trigger a referendum. At around 7,400 votes, barely 30% of that threshold was reached. The request of 22 October 2021 to organise a referendum on the revision of Chapter VI of the constitution has thus not passed.
The result of the official petition can still be contested for five days after its publication in the 'Journal officiel du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg'.
