
While oil prices were on a steady increase for three months, this trend came to an end in December. Compared to the previous month, petrol was 6.8% less expensive in December while Diesel was 4.5% cheaper.
The price for heating oil even decreased by 7.6% compared to November. Despite these decreases, oil prices remained 46.9% more expensive compared to December 2020.
Compared to the previous month, food prices increased by 0.2%. In particular, fresh vegetables became more expensive (+5%), but also Couscous (+3.5%) and fresh fish (+3.2%).
Fresh fruit (-3.8%), baby food (-2%), and frozen seafood (-2%) became cheaper. The price for alcoholic beverages also decreased by 0.5%.
Flights were about 22.1% more expensive in December compared to November, particularly over the holidays. Toys and leisure items were on average 11% less expensive compared to the previous month, mainly due to different promotions and sales in the run-up to Christmas.
