According to information obtained by RTL, this position will soon be filled by the lawyer Josiane Pauly, currently a notary in Senningerberg.
Pauly has worked for several years as a first class government advisor in the Ministry of Sustainable Development and her positions included that of president of the National Society of Automotive Traffic (SNCA) and the National MOT Centre (SNCT).
Pauly will first have to be formally proposed by the Chamber of Deputies to the Grand Duke, as the parliament has the right to propose a candidate for the vacant post. The seat will be formally discussed at the Conference of Presidents before being put out to tender.
According to RTL information, the two profiles proposed by the Council of State to the Chamber of Deputies are looking for a candidate with a university degree in law, and professional experience in administrative law, mobility law, or criminal law.
The Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) was originally supposed to replace Georges Wivenes with a candidate proposed by the party, but in view of the party’s poor election results, the Green Party (Déi Gréng) ‘took over’ the vacant post. The Green Party had only two councillors so far, and with the nomination of Josiane Pauly the CSV loses its 8th mandate.
Following the official nomination of Josiane Pauly, eight of the 21 members of the Council of State will be women.
Former vice-president Marc Schaefer will also have to be replaced in 2021, as he has represented the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) in the Council of State since 2006. New mandates will also be limited to 12 years.
