Colmar-BergComplementary elections unavoidable

RTL Today
Given that three people resigned from the municipal council over the course of recent months, residents of Colmar-Berg will have to vote in renewed local elections in autumn this year.

Councilman Marc Adamy had to step back as he moved away from Colmar-Berg. In an interview with the Wort, councilman Laurent Berchem explained that he resigned due to personal reasons. And finally, councilman Lex Altman conveyed to our colleagues at RTL that he also decided to step back for personal reasons. He further noted that he was no longer willing to watch what was happening on the council, criticism which is not directed at the Mayor of Christian Miny.

Local CSV member Fernand Weiler, who missed out a council spot during the last elections, will try his luck again this year. He thinks there are several problems in the municipality, many of which centre around money.

Weiler further claims that locals do not get their fair share, especially given that important infrastructure, like daycares, are still missing. He also cites a need for new cleaning equipment, delays in construction permits, and a lack of care for public spaces as issues. Mayor Miny believes the town is not worse off now than it was before the last elections. Although he believes that municipal workers are doing their jobs, he acknowledges that certain projects take too much time: “In the case of the daycare, we decided to include the people who actually work there in the planning process, which is why it takes so much longer.”

Construction of the daycare is set to start soon, the Mayor further conveyed. When asked about internal differences on the local council, the politician denied knowing of any conflicts. He also did not want to comment on the rumours claiming that he will not run again in 2023.

The complementary elections of Colmar-Berg will take place no later then at the end of November this year.
