The Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy spoke to newspaper Quotidien about the potential introduction of a tax for the "winners" of the pandemic.

Minister Kersch made use of the interview to reiterate his position and elaborate on potential solutions. He is confident that business turnover from the years 2015 to 2019 can be used as a base to compare and determine how much was earned in 2020 and 2021. Should the difference be higher than 10%, a tax could be applied.

The LSAP politician further noted that a corona tax is not the only solution. However, a general tax increase for the wider population is unthinkable, same as driving up the national debt.

For the time being, Minister Kersch remains curious as to how other parties propose to solve the issue: "If my idea is not the one, then I can't wait to hear the alternative solutions to fix the hole in our finances."
