In a recent interview with RTL, epidemiologist Joel Mossong explained that the sharp increase in infections caused by the Gamma variant is due to a super spreading event which took place on National Day and subsequently led to numerous clusters.

Last week, the Gamma variant accounted for over 72% of all cases.
