Weekly markets, local festivals, cultural events, terraces and walks... this is the programme for the 'new' Place de Paris along Avenue de la Liberté.
The first images of the updated Place de Paris in the station district of Luxembourg City have been released. After a year of construction work, it is time to make room for a convivial atmosphere just a few steps from the central station and a few minutes' walk from the capital's historic city centre.
Three construction phases were organised over 12 months by the City of Luxembourg in order to minimise the impact on traffic. The first phase dealt with the underground networks, the second, between November 2020 and March 2021, bridged the gap between the invisible works and those carried out on the surface.
Finally, between March and June 2021, the roadworks around the Place de Paris formed the last stage of the project. During this phase, the worksite was organised in such a way as to allow cafés and restaurants to set up their terraces in the central areas of the square.
In May, the situation was still very different from the look you can see today:
The newly completed Place de Paris will be inaugurated on Saturday afternoon. The City of Luxembourg presents the finished project as a square where weekly markets, local festivals and cultural events are organised and where it will be pleasant to walk or cycle, to stop on a bench, under a tree, near the fountain, ... you name it.
