The notorious construction project has been the subject of public debates for years. Not only would the bypass cross normal fields, it would also affect zones under national and European protection, as well as a flood plain. Members of “natur&ëmwelt” question whether it is once again nature that has to make room for more traffic.
The organisation also draws attention to the fact that several roads have already been constructed to help ease pressure from traffic in Hesperange. The non-profit thus demands that Minister Bausch reevaluate the possibility of using the Saar motorway as a bypass, instead of constructing a new road.
