CSV MP Claude Wiseler received 84.6% of the vote at the party's national congress on Saturday.
On Saturday morning, the CSV's digital congress was held in Junglinster. In addition to the new national president of the party, four districts received new chairpersons.
Wiseler received 400 votes from 475 members, while MEP Christophe Hansen was elected general secretary. Elisabeth Margue will serve as co-president, and Stéphanie Weydert will occupy the position of co-general secretary. The latter both served as acting presidents following Frank Engel's resignation some weeks ago.
Anne Logelin and Paul Galles will serve as vice-presidents.
For each district post there was only one candidacy, all male. Max Hengel will be district president in the east, Jess Boonen in the north, Jean-Marie Wirth in the south, and Vincent Reding in the centre district.
After the recent turbulences, Claude Wiseler and his team of young and more experienced politicians are to bring calm back into the party, hoping to lead a successful election campaign in 2023.
At the opening of the congress, the name Frank Engel was mentioned more than once. The two acting presidents Stéphanie Weydert and Elisabeth Margue said they regretted the way the debacle unfolded, although they did not wish to give more detail given the current judicial investigations.
