Last Sunday, a fire broke out at a 150-year-old historic brewery in Diekirch.

Even four days after the flames first erupted, the fire brigade was still struggling to fully extinguish the fire. Evidence of the preliminary investigation now points to arson, the Diekirch prosecutor's office announced on Friday. So far, nothing indicates a technical malfunction, officials further noted.

A pyrotechnical investigation is still set to be conducted at the site of the fire.

Call for witnesses

Although the full extent of the damage has yet to be assessed, Diekirch already mourns a historic loss. Since arson is currently considered the most likely cause of the fire, police are still looking for people who may have witnessed suspicious activities in and around the brewery prior to the fire.

Potential witnesses should contact Diekirch police department, either via telephone (+352 244801000) or via email (police.diekirchvianden@police.etat.lu).
