Grethen, who is president of the “Hospices Civils” in Luxembourg City, was vaccinated on Friday 19 February. He underwent the procedure after it was already announced that board members were not to be vaccinated during that initial phase of the campaign.
After Radio 100,7 first broke the news, the DP politician confirmed the information to our colleagues from RTL. Grethen justified his decision by explaining that he was regularly present in institutions caring for senior citizens and people with disabilities. He noted that his presence was needed so that important documents can be signed, such as pays slips.
The former Minister also underlined that he took the vaccine after a recommendation from the hospital board, lead by director Patricia Helbach. He emphasised: “In no way did I want to jump the queue. I only had good intentions and followed the council of the hospital directorate.”
Apart from his regular visits to the buildings of the Hospices Civils in Hamm and Pfaffenthal, Grethen noted that he also tried setting an example for all staff members by taking the vaccine. However, none of the other five board members have yet been vaccinated against Covid-19.
