Minister of Education Claude Meisch held a press conference on Tuesday morning and was joined by representatives from the "Centre for the Luxembourgish Language" (ZLS).
During the press conference, Minister Meisch provided insight into the updated content of the Luxembourg Online Dictionary (LOD) and underlined that there was a growing interest in our language, which also manifests abroad. The ZLS therefore has three distinct goals: promoting the language, integrating it into everyday life, and making it accessible for everyone.
The LOD now counts an additional 1,600 words and 500 updated articles. Sign language has also been added as a new feature to the already existing translations into five languages. Words can moreover be listened to for accurate pronunciation. Meisch praised the online platform for its ability to continuously add information on the Luxembourgish language. The website currently averages around 2,500 visitors per day. An app is also being developed.
The ZLS also published a number of papers on the Luxembourgish language, including articles on verbs and grammar. A series of books is further planned, which is set to provide linguistic details over the course of 12 issues.
