Dr Isabel de la Fuente Garcia works at the Children's Clinic at CHL, where patients are normally under 15 years of age.

According to the doctor, a few babies are indeed hospitalised with a relatively high fever, but overall, the virus does not cause too many health problems with children.

On the other hand, some parents wait too long in the case of other illnesses in their children before going to the doctor, which can lead to issues.

Dr de la Fuente Garcia states that she has noticed an increase in psychological and even psychiatric problems among the youngest children in recent weeks. For instance, the Kannerklinik of the CHL has recently been confronted with cases of heightened anxiety or even suicide attempts.

In this context, de la Fuente Garcia reminds parents to look out for warning signs in their children's behaviour, such as deliberate isolation, insomnia, loss of appetite, or general anxiety.
