Ministers, syndicates, and senior officials of the aviation sector met in Kirchberg on Thursday to discuss potential solutions to the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus. The meeting was successful according to the aviation syndicates, as Luxair granted employment guarantees.
The government announced that an aviation plan for 2020-2023 will be planned with the aim of maintaining the longevity of the sector’s companies. Luxair, Cargolux, and Luxairport will thus receive government support.
François Bausch, Minister for Mobility, explains that the pandemic resulted in certain structural developments to which businesses must adapt to survive in the long run. It may well be that aviation will have a different pace, which is why the ‘2020-23 aviation plan’ is crucial to take such developments into account.
Bausch expects more details to be established by the end of October, including the overall cost of the aid. The next summit will take place on 7 October, where the concerned parties will have the opportunity to present their next results.
