On Tuesday, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology noted an increase in the concentration of Sars-Cov-2 in Luxembourg's wastewater.

On 14 July, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology carried out a sample study at sites in Bettembourg, Beggen, Pétange, Hesperange, Troisvierges, and Schifflange. Troisvierges was the only site which returned a negative result for coronavirus.

The increased presence of the virus in Luxembourg's wastewater has been noted since 25 June, roughly when the number of new infections began to rise.

The concentration of the virus was particularly high in Bettembourg and Pétange, almost triple the amount in June. Elsewhere, in Hesperange and the north of the country, the virus appeared to have dropped or remained stable.

More detailed analysis and new studies will take place to ascertain why the concentration varies per site.
