The petition to keep Luxembourg's schools closed until September has received enough signatures to be debated in the Chamber of Deputies.
The petition asking for schools to remain closed until September has already garnered over 5,500 signatures as of earlier this Sunday. Any petition that amasses over 4,500 signatures has to be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies.
There is, however, one key problem: schools are set to reopen in May but the petition only closes on 6 June.
The President of the competent commission Martine Hansen has already told the Lëtzebuerger Wort that MPs would discuss the matter again next week. She nevertheless stressed that the procedures that have already been agreed upon would not simply be thrown overboard. The veteran CSV politician also stated that, even without the petition, the issue would have been debated in a parliamentary session.
Another petition - albeit not on an official state platform - with the same demand had previously garnered nearly 16,500 signatures.
