While some places have been forced to close, pharmacies are not amongst them. In fact, a high demand for various medication, particularly paracetamol, has meant that the workload for employees has been extraordinarily heavy. In order to protect both employees and customers, new precautions have been put in place here as well.
Indeed the demand for paracetamol has, unsurprisingly, seen a surge in popularity in the last weeks. This is partly due to the World Health Organisation’s since-revoked warning concerning ibuprofen and its potentially averse effects on the disease - this warning was revoked on Thursday. Nevertheless, some pharmacies might experience a shortage in the future.
It seems that stocks for high-risk patients have been secured. Recently there has also been a rise in demand for Vitamin C, which in turn meant it became difficult to acquire. The same goes for thermometers, disinfectants, and masks.
In order to protect employees for the virus, they have been given masks and customers are to keep a 2m distance. Plexiglass barriers are also being erected. In order to avoid pharmacies going into quarantine, only part of the staff is being employed.
Pharmacies have been very busy in the last few weeks, however apparently the situation is calming down.
