At the request of the Ministry for the Environment, customs officials carried out checks in 450 retail spots in November and December 2019. These included shops, restaurants, and other sales’ points.
Officials found that in 28 of these locations, customers were given free plastic bags.
The business owners and managers were reminded of the law of March 2017, which bans the distribution of free plastic bags as of 31 December 2018.
At the end of February, those 28 locations were subject to further controls. All bar one had taken the reminder into consideration. The remaining business was fined €500.
