The two organisations deplored the lack of a national action plan for organic farming in Luxembourg, which is supposed to be in the pipeline. The action plan, once completed, is hoped to implement concrete measures.

Both Mouveco and the organic farming association welcomed the decision to put an official in charge of the support of organic agriculture. They nevertheless stressed that subsidies for investments should be based on qualitative rather than quantitative criteria. In other words, investments should not merely depend on the growth of production.

Luxembourg well below EU average for both organic farming and renewable energyThe organisations also criticised that organic farmers, unlike their non-organic counterparts, do not receive financial compensation for giving up the use of glyphosate-based plant protection products.

The share of organic farming currently lies at 4.4% in Luxembourg. Officials said they would raise the share to 20% by 2025.
