The Association of Road Traffic Victims (AVR) declares 2018 report "catastrophic".

The report comes amid increasing safety measures for road users.

The causes of accidents remain by and large the same as always: excessive speed, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Insofar as the issues remain the same, AVR is requesting a Chamber debate to find a solution for a number of stretches of road.

The nine bikers who lost their lives were also not forgotten in this respect. While a number of measures to improve the situation were suggested to Minister François Bausch and consequently put into practice, AVR warned that more awareness needed to be raised before the motorbike season started again.

The organisation supports the families of road traffic victims by providing psychological and social care. AVR has said, however, that in many cases this process of care takes a long time, which is pushing the organisation to its limits. AVR currently has 300 members. Every year, they provide guidance to 100 new families.
