Municipal council member Christiana Brassel-Rausch (the Greens) has been elected mayor of Differdange, becoming the first woman to be at the helm of Luxembourg’s third town.
Brassel-Rausch succeeds Roberto Traversini, who resigned after having been accused of building a garden shed on a protected site without the required authorisations.
Brassel-Rausch’s election occurred without doubts, as the local CSV faction wishes to continue its coalition with the Greens, albeit without Traversini. Her predecessor Traversini announced his resignation by letter sent to Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding.
Roberto Traversini has now resigned from all his political mandates. First, he quit as Differdange mayor, then he stepped down as a Member of Parliament. Now, the man at the centre of a conflict of interest scandal has submitted his resignation from the municipal council.
