In over a year's time, Luxembourg will present its pavilion at the Word Expo hosted in Dubai. The first details were revealed on Tuesday morning.

The first World Expo taking place in the Middle East will run from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is one of Luxembourg’s biggest commercial partners in the area.

The Expo will see the construction of a city in Dubai South designed to exist beyond the Dubai Expo 2020, becoming its legacy.

Luxembourg unveiled its initial plans for its pavilion on Tuesday. The architectural firm Metaform has been charged with the project, electing the Swiss firm Nüssli Adunic AG to build the actual pavilion.

The Luxembourg pavilion will have a surface of 2,770 square metres and be built over three floors. The pavilion will have a capacity of 500 people, with visits lasting between 15 and 20 minutes.

Luxembourg’s budget in participating at the World Expo is at the €32 million mark.

Three private partners, namely POST, SES, and the Chamber of Commerce, have each contributed around €2.5 million to the project. Further sponsors include ArcelorMittal, Cargolux, RAK Porcelain, Guardian Glass, MCM Steel, and the Luxembourgish Tourism Union (ULT).

The work continues on the pavilion. The inauguration will take place in January 2020.

The World Expo showcases the achievements of participating nations. The best known first World Expo was the “Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations,” held at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, in 1851.
