This Friday, the Ministry of Mobility examined the toll of 2018's road accidents: they concluded that there were 234 serious accidents, of which 31 fatal.
On Friday afternoon, Minister for Mobility François Bausch officially presented the figures of last year's road accidents. These consisted of a total of 947 accidents that caused injuries (including light injuries), of which 265 were serious or fatal accidents.
In the worst cases, the main cause can be traced back to excessive speeding: it was the determining factor of 16 accidents. Alcohol takes the blame for 3 of them.
Comparing the toll to 2017, there were 7 more fatal incidents in 2018. While 2018 witnessed a total of 31 accidents with 36 deaths, 2017 witnessed 24 accidents with 25 deaths. This means that the death toll has risen by 44%.
