One case is said to have involved sexual violence in the late 1930s by a clergyman, which was reported by a victim who was a minor at the time of the assaults.
In the other 3 cases, physical violence was involved. Emotional violence was also a main focus in two of the cases.
The Vicar General (principal deputy of the bishop of a diocese) Patrick Müller, forwarded all 4 reports to the public prosecutor’s office.
In addition, one abuse victim received financial compensation from the diocese for the suffering that was caused to him.
Around 60 sexual abuse cases had been processed so far as of 2022. There are no current plans for a large independent study such as the one done in Germany, where abuse cases were analysed to discover who was aware of what was going on.
For 14 years there has been a hotline where victims of abuse can report cases to the Luxembourg Catholic Church. The number is +352 621 676 349 (Fridays between 9-11 am), and the email address is: fir-iech-do@cathol.lu.
The contact person is Martine Jungers, who is also responsible for abuse prevention. Around 160 people who work or are involved in the organisation of the Catholic Church have participated in 13 trainings.
