Among the 102 establishments were hairdressers, beauty salons, perfume and make-up stores and tattoo studios.

Frequent violations were found in the displaying of prices for available services, affecting 58% of the shops inspected. 69% of establishments also failed to correctly display prices for products on sale. These violations were primarily detected in locations such as hair salons and beauty institutes. The Ministry said it would not sanction establishments following the first checks, focusing instead on helping the stores to comply with regulations. In a press release published on Thursday, the Ministry said the concerned establishments had been very cooperative.

In addition, the Ministry is planning training and awareness campaigns with representatives from the beauty sector, ahead of future checks. During the next bout of inspections, further violations can be punished with fines of up to €2,000.

Paulette Lenert, acting Minister of Consumer Protection, praised the cooperation, saying that “the best way to protect consumer rights is to collaborate, hand in hand, with professionals in the sector, in building a relationship of mutual trust, and where transparency prevails.”
