The “Nordstad” comprising the five municipalities Diekirch, Ettelbruch, Schieren, Erpeldange-sur-Sûre and Bettendorf, aims to become a third business centre in the country after Luxembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette, while at the same time increasing quality of life for its inhabitants.
This means less through traffic, more nature, better public transport and a cycle express way. Around 120 residents flocked to the first info meeting at the old sawmill in Diekirch, organised by Ministers Claude Turmes and François Bausch.
The deadline of 2035 is still realistic, according to the two ministers. “If you have the political will, this can be done”, said François Bausch. Individual projects such as the cycleway, a number of bridges and the landscape park, should be finished within the next four years, Claude Turmes added.
The budget for the entire project currently stands at 1.7 billion. The implementation is overseen by the Nordstad Development Society, which was founded in 2019.
