The quality of selfies is the most important camera feature for smartphone users, according to a survey published on Tuesday by the digital association Bitkom. 69% of respondents said that the front-facing camera used for selfies is the main thing to consider when talking about a smartphone’s camera.
Other key features ranked slightly lower: Natural-looking colors and contrast (65%), good low-light performance (61%), and a high megapixel count (61%).
According to the representative survey of 1,006 respondents, 60% also consider a strong zoom important so they can clearly capture distant subjects with their phone camera. Meanwhile, 59% value high video resolution. Features for automatic photo enhancement are important to 56% of respondents, and 55% prioritise wide-angle shots. Only 10% said that the camera function plays no role in their choice of device.
Bitkom surveyed 1,006 people in Germany aged 16 and older, of whom 861 reported using a smartphone for personal purposes. According to the organisation, the survey is representative of that demographic.
