On Saturday, a man declared that he had published the personal data connected to over 500 million Facebook accounts. The data is accessible for anybody, and thus also cyber criminals.
The leak once again exposed substantial vulnerabilities within the world’s biggest social network.
Facebook stated that the vulnerabilities in question had already been patched in August 2019. However, the group did not specify whether the affected users were informed back then, something which is actually provided for by European regulations.
The website https://haveibeenpwned.com/ offers an easy way to check whether one of your online accounts was affected by this or any other major leak of personal information.
Simply put in the e-mail address connected to your account and you will receive the result within seconds. In case you are affected, you should change the password to that account immediately. In general, it is a good idea to regularly change your online passwords, e.g. every three months.
